Manchester’s BGFG plans to revive 6 specialist titles following its acquisition of Iconic Publications.
The digital media and publishing company said it will rejuvenate Diabetes Self-Management, Outdoor Photographer, Imaging Resource, The Writer, BirdWatching and JazzTimes and reintroduce them to a global audience.
“These publications are not just brands; they are cornerstones of their respective communities,” said William Blears, CSO of BGFG.
“We are honoured to have the opportunity to breathe new life into these titles. We are committed to respecting their legacies while also innovating and expanding their reach to engage today’s audiences.”
Diabetes Self-Management has been a trusted source of information for millions living with diabetes since 1983. Outdoor Photographer was launched 2 years later, while Imaging Resource, has been a pioneer in the digital photography space, providing in-depth reviews and industry news since 1998.
The Writer has inspired and informed aspiring and professional writers alike since 1887 and is one of the oldest continuously published magazines in the U.S.
BirdWatching has catered to nature enthusiasts since 1987 and JazzTimes, founded in 1970, is revered as one of the most influential publications in the jazz community.
BGFG explained that it planned to relaunch the titles in both print and digital format. It is currently “opening lines of communication” with the previous teams that were involved in their publication.
However, it explained that this was not going to be an easy task, with each brand having “suffered in recent years” and BGFG said that its first phase would simply be to get the brands live, so it can “make better decisions on the future of each.”
The acquisitions and relaunches are part of a wider strategy to revitalise and expand the reach of niche publications that have passionate and dedicated followings.
