Manchester-based online retailer N Brown Group has appointed Steve Johnson as permanent chief executive with immediate effect.
Johnson had filled the position on an interim basis when incumbent CEO Angela Spindler abruptly left in September.
He was previously the company’s chief executive of financial services having joined from Shop Direct in February 2016. He’s also held senior roles at Sainsbury and Halifax.
N Brown’s chairman Matt Davies said: “As interim chief executive, Steve has shown the strategic thinking, pace, energy and focus which demonstrates that he is the best person to take the business forward. He brings a wealth of senior management experience across a number of large retail and financial services companies.”
Johnson said: “During the last six months I have had the opportunity to lead a passionate, talented and committed team. Together, we have made considerable operational and strategic progress which we look forward to building on.”
Last October, N Brown reported disappointing product sales for the six months to September 1st 2018, blaming challenging market conditions and the ongoing decline in its legacy offline business.
The company posted half-year revenue of £457.8m, up 1% on 2017’s £453.4m, as growth in its customer credit business offset a decline in product sales. Earlier this month we reported how the company’s Chief Customer Officer had suddenly left the company.
