On The Beach has taken out a “cheeky” ad campaign as fashionistas descend on the Northern Quarter for the Chanel Métiers d’Art event.
Its ad van has been touring the area with a picture of a Chanel bag and copy reading: This bag’s £5,093 cheaper in Turkey. (May as well get some sun while you’re there too).
A second one feature another bag and reads: “£4,810?! Timothée and Kylie could get an all-inclusive, loved-up fortnight in Benidorm for less than this bag’s strap.”
As well as touring near the event itself, it’s displayed on a large outdoor digital billboard on Oldham Street.
“Our head office is in Manchester so when we heard Chanel were coming to town we couldn’t help but get involved,” said Zoe Harris, Chief Customer Officer at On the Beach.
“Let’s be honest, what would you rather have, a Chanel bag or a couple of two-week, all-inclusive holidays to Turkey, New York or Dubai?
“I’m sure some of the celebrities and superstar models in attendance will have seen our ad and will be getting on our site to ‘bag’ themselves a bargain tomorrow.”
Is On the Beach the only brand to jump on the Chanel bandwagon? Well either Kate Moss is a huge Aldi fan and keeps getting snapped with a reusable bag from the supermarket. Or maybe the Aldi team have employed a lookalike to get the headlines.
The reporter behind Manchester Evening News’ live celeb-spotting blog of the event spoke for all of those retweeting the images from this morning:
“We’re still waiting for more details, but it’s looking like it may not have been the super model after all. I’m just as furious as you guys are – I’ll let you know when we find out more.”
