A new partnership has been created in the North East, to support and nurture comedy talent, both on and off screen.
The North East Comedy Hot House, is a collaboration between Northern Film + Media (NFM) and scripted comedy executive, Emma Lawson.
It hopes to be the home for growing new talent and production companies from the North East and Tees Valley.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Emma to deliver the North East Comedy Hot House, a platform that’ll extend Northern Film + Media’s commitment to supporting regional comedy talent, in-front and behind the camera,” said John Tulip, Managing Director of Northern Film + Media.
It will allow those working in the sector a space to experiment, find collaborators, funds and resources. There will also be regular events, workshops, networking and commissioning opportunities.
“The Hot House was born from a shared desire to develop and showcase the rich comedic and programme making talent here in the North East,” added Executive Producer, Emma Lawson.
“We have such a unique, exciting comedy community, and this initiative has been formed especially for us to get more involved with that on a programme making level. It’s a dream project to be a partnering with NFM on, and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
Organisers say they will shortly announce their first commission of 24 digital shorts, which will all be produced by and star local talent. Lawson will work closely with NFM to shortlist and then exec produce the shorts.
