CBBC has announced that the new presenter of Blue Peter will be decided by a TV series.
The new series, So You Think You Can Be A Blue Peter Presenter, will air this summer and be developed and produced by the Salford-based CBBC Productions in-house team.
CBBC stars Dick and Dom (Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood) will host, with the eventual winner joining Barney Harwood and Helen Skelton as the third member of the Blue Peter presenting team.
The move is a first for the world’s longest-running children’s TV show, and will see candidates compete through challenge-based heats to reach a final where the winner will be chosen by the CBBC audience.
CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor said: “Working on Blue Peter is a dream job for any aspiring presenter and our search for a new face to join Helen and Barney will generate a huge level of excitement for CBBC viewers. With the irrepressible Dick and Dom on hand to orchestrate proceedings we anticipate high tension and high jinks!”
