Middlechild Productions has named former Tiger Aspect and BBC producer, Gursharan Singh Nijjar, as its new Head of Factual.
He joins the Newcastle and Brighton indie to work in its North East office, with a focus on “premium, returning series.”
“Working at Middlechild is an absolute joy for any film maker,” he said.
“David [Sumnall MD] and the rest of the team are not only welcoming but strive for ambition and excellence across all levels of Production, something we all crave for in the industry. I’m incredibly delighted with this opportunity and proud to be part of Middlechild’s journey.”
Middlechild opened its Newcastle office – Northern Child – last year after winning a BBC commission for Northern Justice.
Singh Niijar was series producer on the indie’s Channel 5 series, Coastguard: Every Second Counts, which is set to return early next year.
His CV also includes being Series PD on Forensics: The real CSI and a Senior Gallery Producer on 24 Hours in A&E. He was also Series Director for The Cotswolds with Pam Ayres.
“Despite all the challenges in the industry, we’ve had a really positive couple of years, and we’ve been looking for someone to help capitalise on that growth,” explained Middlechild’s MD, David Sumnall.
“As soon as I started working with Gursh, and hearing his ideas and ambition, I knew we’d found someone who can take us to the next level. He’s got the perfect mix of being a great filmmaker and storyteller, as well as a team leader that everyone likes and respects.”
