The new series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is to go ahead at its new location in North Wales despite the announcement of a lockdown in Wales.
First Minister Mark Drakeford announced a two-week fire-break lockdown yesterday, with people in Wales required to stay at home from 6pm on Friday.
The new series of I’m a Celebrity is due to air next month from Gwrych Castle in Abergele, instead of its usual location in Australia.
Some had wondered whether yesterday’s lockdown announcement could mean the end for this series of the popular reality show – presented by Ant and Dec – but the programme’s official Twitter account has confirmed that it will be allowed to continue.
The tweet read: “Following the announcement today from the First Minister, the overriding message is that filming CAN continue in Wales providing related activity cannot be undertaken from home, and there is full compliance with Welsh law.
“We cannot wait to see I’m A Celebrity on our screens!”
And speaking at RTS event Why We Love… Reality yesterday, Richard Cowles, director of entertainment at ITV Studios, revealed the lengths that the production crew had gone to to ensure that this year’s series would be Covid-proof.
According to Broadcast, Cowles said that a virtual version of the castle has been created to enable producers to work out where best to position the cameras without having to visit the site.
He also said that all on-site crew will have devices which beep when individuals come within two metres of each other.
“The key thing for me is that we create the safest possible workplace for crew, cast and our hosts,” he said.
