Sally Joynson, the former CEO of Screen Yorkshire has joined the board of MetFilm School.
Joynson retired from Screen Yorkshire earlier this year, after 20 years at the organisation.
“I didn’t want to leave the industry all together and when MetFilm School invited me to join their Board, it was a perfect opportunity to get involved with something new and really worthwhile,” she explained.
“My background in strategy, investment, skills and sector growth, particularly outside of London, and a real vision and passion for what can be achieved, are attributes that I hope will be useful to MetFilm School.”
The £6m MetFilm School launched in Leeds last year, pledging to enrol around 100 students each year.
It also has campuses in Berlin and at London’s Ealing Studios.
‘’I’m really excited to be joining MetFilm School. It’s an impressive film school with some great industry collaborations and interesting opportunities ahead. I hope to help it respond to those,” she continued.
“I’m also keen to see MetFilm School’s new Leeds campus embedded into the Yorkshire and north of England screen landscape. The School has made a substantial investment in the area and it’s a very welcome addition to region.
“The screen sector is booming in the UK and there’s never been a better time to join the industry. Yes, we have a skills shortage in some key grades, and the industry and training providers are uniting in trying to tackle this, but it’s vitally important that we continue to look to the future and identify and develop the next generation of screen talent.
“It’s also critical that the industry is made more accessible and attracts a wider, more diverse pool of new and emerging talent. It has to be more reflective of our world and our communities so that talent, wherever it is based, whatever its background, is given the opportunity to flourish.”
