Everton Football Club has added basketball royalty to its ownership team, with NBA Hall of Famer and Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd becoming the latest high-profile investor.
Kidd, a 10-time NBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, has joined Roundhouse Capital Holdings, part of The Friedkin Group, which recently took over Everton. The move brings one of basketball’s most decorated figures into English football at a pivotal time for the Merseyside club.
As a player, Kidd won the 2011 NBA Championship with the Mavericks and is considered one of the greatest point guards in history. Since retiring, he has transitioned into coaching, leading the Mavericks to the 2024 Western Conference Championship.
Now, he’s turning his attention to football, with Everton preparing for a new era under Friedkin’s ownership and a move to their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
Kidd said: “I’m honoured to be joining Everton’s ownership at such an important moment: with a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it’s a great moment to come on board.”
Everton Executive Chairman Marc Watts welcomed the move, highlighting Kidd’s winning mentality: “As one of the NBA’s greatest players and now a successful coach, his knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource for Everton.
“He is a respected leader and household name for many sports fans and will bring a deeper understanding of high performance as we collectively strive to build a brighter future for this storied club.”
Kidd’s arrival signals Everton’s ambition to tap into global sports expertise as they aim to climb the Premier League table and establish themselves in their new waterfront home. His experience in high-performance environments could prove valuable as the club looks to rebuild.
