N Brown Group chair Ron McMillan is stepping down for personal reasons after 11 years on the ecommerce giant’s board, five of them as chair.

McMillan will leave on April 30, with group chief executive Steve Johnson stepping into his role on an interim basis until a permanent chair is appointed.

The JD Williams and Simply Be owner said it had begun a search for McMillan’s replacement and a further announcement will be made “in due course.”

Johnson said: “Ron has made a significant contribution as chair and has played a critical role in the transformation of this company. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Ron for his dedication to N Brown.”

The retailer said that independent non-executive Vicky Mitchell will also step down from the board following its annual general meeting in July to focus on other professional commitments.

The group said at the start of the year it was on track to meet profit expectations, with slightly softer sales expected to be offset by margin discipline.
