BBC One drama anthology series Moving On, created by Liverpool based LA Productions, is to return to television screens in March.
The new series features turns from established stars such as Les Dennis, Kelvin Fletcher and Mina Anwar, as well as the acting debut of Elizabeth McClarnon, formerly of pop band Atomic Kitten.
Famous names previously involved in the show include Neil Morrissey, Sheila Hancock, Mark Addy, Sharon Horgan, Kenneth Cranham, Dominic West, and Sue Johnston.
Topics previously covered in the series include historic sexual abuse, the gig economy and revenge porn.
Like the previous eleven series, the five new episodes were filmed on location across Merseyside.
Filming took place during August and September 2020, with the shoot being the first location based TV production to take place under pioneering COVID-safe production methods.
The show has also proven instrumental in providing on-screen exposure for new and emerging talents. This series features the first commissions for Lee Thompson, a graduate of the Liverpool Everyman Writers Program and current part time teacher at Edge Hill University; and Adriel Leff, who is also a DJ and music producer.
Other scripts for the current series were written by Lisa McMullin (Doctors, Eastenders), returning writer David Chidlow (Hidden) and Charlie Swinbourne, who has used his own experience to pen an episode focusing on how a young couple adapt to the unexpected consequences of hearing loss.
This episode features Sophie Stone, co-founder of Deaf & Hearing Ensemble Theatre Company, as a hearing-impaired young woman who learns sign language as her deafness grows worse, with former Emmerdale regular and Strictly Come Dancing 2019 winner Kelvin Fletcher as her husband.
Screenwriter and producer Jimmy McGovern, executive producer of the show, said: “For Moving On to reach its twelfth series is a real achievement, and is testament to what can be achieved by authentically portraying extraordinary moments in ordinary people’s lives.”
Mandy Redvers-Rowe, who wrote an episode of the previous series of Moving On based in part on her own experience of blindness is nominated for the Edinburgh TV Festival New Voices Award 2021.
