Morrisons digital chief quits

MorrisonsThe head of digital development at Yorkshire supermarket chain Morrisons is believed to have quit just three months into the job
.

It is being widely reported this morning that Simon Harrow is to leave the retailer.

The former chief operating officer at Kiddicare moved to Morrisons after the supermarket bought the baby equipment retailer in 2011.

University of Central Lancashire graduate, Harrow had been responsible for digital and platform development at Kiddicare, which Morrisons announced last month it was selling.

Recognised in both the 2011 and 2012 Multi Channel Movers and Shakers report, as well as ranking 42nd on the 2013 Retail Week Etail Power List, Harrow is also active within a number of industries groups, having sat on global, European and UK advisory boards for a number of companies.

The news follows the announcement in January that the man hired to oversee the day-to-day running of Morrisons’ online grocery service had resigned.

George Dymond quit just weeks after joining the firm.

Prior to joining the Bradford-based group, Dymond was group general manager of merchandise at Coles, the Australian retailer.

He re-emerged at rival supermarket giant Tesco as operations development director.

Last month Morrisons reported a £176m loss for the last 12 months, falling from a profit of £879m the year before.

It said that was mainly due to a one-off exceptional cost of £903m for property costs.
As a result it said there would be a restructure of it’s marketing, with fewer “more impactful promotions”, an emphasis on multichannel, plus the introduction of a loyalty card.
