More than 500 jobs go as Polestar administrators close Sheffield plant

PricewaterhouseCoopers has confirmed that it is closing Polestar’s Sheffield printing plant.

98 employees working out of its web offset site and 450 in the gravure operations will lose their jobs.

The administrators said that the plant would close with immediate effect.

“It is with real regret that we have made these decisions, but this was the inevitable consequence of no viable offers being received and a rapid departure of a number of customers,” said PwC partner Zelf Hussain in a statement.

“We would like to thank employees for their assistance, cooperation and hard work and the union for their support during this difficult time.”

At its peak the Sheffield plant, produced almost 3m catalogues, magazines, brochures and supplements every 24 hours. The group’s client list included Top Gear, Hello!, Grazia and the Radio Times.
