McCann Manchester more than doubles its profits for 2018

McCann Manchester has more than doubled profit and increased turnover to £127.8m for the year ended December 31st 2018.

Profit was £3.54m, up from £1.65m in 2017, while turnover increased from £104.9m to £127.8m. Operating profits were up from £1.56m to £2.88m, while pre-tax profits also increased from £1.65m to £3.54m. The company now employs 363 staff, up from 347 in 2017.

Prestbury-based McCann has held Aldi’s creative account since 2005 and is behind the highly successful Kevin the Carrot Christmas campaign. Kevin returned for his third outing in the supermarket’s 2018 Christmas campaign, with soft toys and merchandise again proving popular.

The financial year saw some major account wins for the agency, In May, Vauxhall Motors UK appointed McCann for media planning and buying across its 323-strong UK dealer network. In September, premium kitchen retailer Magnet re-appointed the agency as its strategic and creative agency responsible for its retail business after a 15-year break.

There was other major news, with Sue Little stepping aside after 20 years as CEO to be replaced by Karen Buchanan. Little, who has been with the agency for 36 years, moved over to become chairwoman from January 2019.

She said: “I see Karen’s appointment and my new role as the next of those exciting opportunities and I am looking forward to working together to help create the next chapter in an amazingly successful business story.”

In May this year, McCann was appointed as the strategic and creative brand agency for Matalan in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £20m.
