Woocheen, a $1bn-turnover global ocean-health business owned by U.S. Alaska Native Corporation Sealaska, has appointed strategic marketing communications agency MC2 to help accelerate the growth of its geosciences capabilities in the UK.
Woocheen’s mission is to foster health for the world’s oceans and address climate change. Its geosciences, seafood and construction businesses tackle the issues facing oceans in a variety of ways: applying geotechnical expertise that supports the generation of power from offshore wind and keeps water clean, supporting sustainably managed fisheries around the world, and using construction expertise to keep people and planet safe.
Woocheen will be working with Manchester-based MC2 to build its profile in the UK and communicate its vision to key stakeholders, with a remit including corporate communications and demonstrating its market expertise.
Woocheen is the business arm of Sealaska, an Alaska Native Corporation owned by 26,000 Alaska Native shareholders with more than 10,000 years of ancestral ties to the oceans, forests and communities of Southeast Alaska. Woocheen’s UK businesses include New England Seafood International in Surrey and Grimsby and Causeway Geotech in Northern Ireland.
Terry Downes, CEO at Woocheen, said: “There is growing momentum around ocean health in the UK, with critical work happening across the region to improve the outlook for our oceans and ultimately protect our environment. We’ve seen world-class expertise within niche areas of geosciences in the UK, which is why expanding our work and presence here is a real focus. MC2’s strategic approach, understanding of our target markets and global network made them a great partner to support our mission.”
Ellie Matthews, Director at MC2, added: “The work Woocheen is doing globally to protect our planet is truly inspiring, and the growth journey the platform has been on to date speaks to the importance of its vision. For MC2, partnering with Woocheen brings together our specialism in supporting ambitious, high-growth organisations and our commitment to making a real difference. We’re looking forward to telling its story in the UK.”
