Manchester will be getting Rickrolled this week as part of a takeover tapping into the iconic Rick Astley meme to launch The Mezz at the AO Arena.
Ticketer Seat Unique is teaming up with AO operator ASM Global to RickRoll the entire city all week, serving up billboards across 40 iconic sites in Manchester, including Piccadilly Gardens, St Ann’s Square, The Loop and Manchester Arndale, that will show the Mezz Experience and then hijack them at different times with a surprise Rickroll. If passers-by catch a RickRoll somewhere, they have the chance to win two VIP tickets to the new, exclusive, members-only level at the venue.
Rickrolling or a Rickroll, you may recall, was an Internet meme involving the unexpected appearance of the music video to the 1987 hit song “Never Gonna Give You Up”, performed by English singer Rick Astley, that peaked in the late noughties.
The Mezz officially launches on Saturday March 2, with the Never Gonna Give You Up Legend, Newton-le-Willow’s finest, Rick Astley himself.
Seat Unique sells hospitality tickets to the hottest events across the country and in Manchester, from Manchester United to Girls Aloud.
