Visitors to Manchester’s Christmas markets are set for a bonus bout of festive cheer as EE announced a major upgrade to 5G coverage in central Manchester.
EE, part of BT Group, has provided the improved and enhanced connectivity across Manchester’s Christmas markets, to support the millions of visitors expected to pass through its stalls this year.
The boost will make it easier for visitors and tourists to access the internet and share their photos and videos across the nine city centre sites.
The improvements will also allow traders at the market’s 220 stalls to access more reliable connections to support key transactions like card and wireless payments which can be carried out over the network.
Manchester’s Christmas markets have been a mainstay of the city for over 20 years and attract up to 9 million visitors each year.
Greg McCall, chief networks officer, BT Group, said: “There is nothing like the sights and smells of a Christmas market. This year, with more people expected to visit some of the nation’s major destinations, ensuring the availability of high capacity, super-fast connectivity is crucial for customers and traders alike. As we continue to invest in and expand our 5G network, we’re thrilled to be powering Christmas market destinations across more of the UK.”
