Manchester mobile app expert takes Poundland to top of download charts

Leading mobile experience expert Apadmi has created an all-new loyalty app for Poundland which has caused quite a stir since launching earlier this month.

Following successful trials, Poundland Perks has been rolled out nationwide and the app became the number one free download in the Apple and Google Play stores in just 24 hours.

It offers an all-new loyalty scheme which provides a combination of personalised offers, Poundland Perks Points and interactive games. The app has had more than 500,000 sign-ups in the first few days.

Poundland’s director of digital, Tom Hill said: “It’s been a very strong start for our new rewards app, as we give customers the opportunity to save, earn and play through their smartphone, making shopping with us even more fun, and even more amazing value – whether in store or online.”

The new app underwent several rounds of testing over the last year initially on the Isle of Wight, in Northern Ireland and latterly in Scotland before its national launch.

Apadmi and Poundland worked closely to create a mobile experience which met both customer and business needs. User research quickly revealed the app dramatically increased purchasing frequency and customers loved the elements of gamification.

Poundland’s Head of Digital Loyalty and Engagement Emma Collins said: “The engagement levels in the app when we use gamification are through the roof – our customers love the app and are really engaged with it. We couldn’t have achieved this without Apadmi’s mobile expertise and smart loyalty solutions.”

As part of an ongoing partnership with Poundland, Apadmi continues to support across design, development and optimisation.

Apadmi’s client services director Keeley Lee said: “We are delighted to see the initial impact the Poundland Perks app has had on the wider business and its customers. To see the collaborative effort across the team be so positively received is fantastic and we’re only at the beginning of this exciting project.”
