Manchester agency appoints digital inclusion chief to lead on Nordic expansion

Nexer Digital has appointed Hanna Karppi as its new head of digital inclusion, Nordics, as part of its expansion into the Nordic market and its launch of a new dedicated Business Unit in Stockholm.

Karppi brings extensive experience and expertise in digital communication, transformation and strategy, having previously held prominent roles within the industry, including at Nexer Group. Her appointment marks a major milestone in Nexer Digital’s growth in Sweden, where Hanna will be instrumental in driving its work in accessibility and digital inclusion to help clients improve their products, services, and workplaces.

Hilary Stephenson, managing director at Nexer Digital, said: “We are pleased to welcome Hanna to Nexer Digital. Following our success in the UK, expanding into the Nordic market is the next natural step for us, and Hanna’s experience and passion for creating user-centred digital communication, products and services align perfectly with our values and commitment to accessibility, inclusion and social impact.”
Nexer Digital’s expansion into the Nordics is a strategic move to tap into the region’s vibrant tech landscape and leverage growth opportunities presented by legislation such as the European Accessibility Act.

As part of the expansion, Nexer Digital aims to help customers build diverse teams and design accessible products and inclusive services, through collaboration with teams across its global parent company, Nexer Group AB, headquartered in Sweden.

Karppi added: “I am excited to help Nordic organisations with human-centred solutions, using technology to build more empowering and inclusive workplaces and accessible and intuitive digital services. After working closely with Nexer Digital for over six years and seeing all the incredible work they do, I am very happy to finally be an official member of this amazing team. There couldn’t be a better time to join forces to help create more inclusive and diverse workplaces.”

As part of its Nordic launch, Nexer Digital is in discussions with Samhall, the Swedish state-owned employer whose mission is to create enriching jobs for people with disabilities. This initiative mirrors the partnerships Nexer Digital has established in the UK, such as its growing relationship with the Digital Independent Specialist College (DISC) in Manchester, which supports young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in preparing for adulthood and employment, and its ongoing partnership with Microsoft.

Hilary Stephenson continued: “Relationships with Swedish organisations like Samhall build on the strong partnerships we have developed in the UK. As discussions around welfare reform continue, it is more important than ever to support people who are eager and able to work in meaningful careers. We can learn a huge amount from impactful organisations such as Samhall and DISC, allowing us to deepen our understanding, enhance our initiatives, and continue to create value for public, private, and non-profit organisations striving to improve their products, services, and employee experiences.”

Founded in 2007, Nexer Digital (formerly Sigma) is a human-centred research, design and development agency which creates products and services that enhance people’s lives and work. With a focus on digital inclusion and social impact, Nexer works with companies in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, both nationally and internationally. The team believes strongly in developing long-term, mutually beneficial strategic partnerships with its customers, with key clients and partners including, NHS England, Cambridge University, Astra Zeneca and the Department for Education. They’re also the organisers of the annual UX design conference Camp Digital, held in Manchester. Nexer Digital is part of the Nexer Group – a Swedish technology firm with over 2,500 colleagues around the world.
