Made in Manchester has produced a special documentary on Nelson Mandela for BBC Radio 5 Live, which will air tonight.
The Day I Met Mandela will form part of the station’s Remembering Mandela Night.
“Nelson Mandela touched the lives of many people over the years and in this programme we hear from a range of figures he met – from those close to him to people who literally met him very fleetingly. They’ve all got engaging stories to tell,” said creative director, Ashley Byrne, who co-produced it alongside Ian McCormick.
The documentary features former barrister, Joel Joffe, who defended Mandela in the Rivonia Trial, and Denis Goldberg, who was jailed alongside Mandela following the trial in 1964. They also spoke to South African Paralympic swimmer, Natalie du Toit and Tony Hollingsworth who staged the 2 Mandela Concerts in 1998 and 1990.
It airs tonight (December 6th) at around 11pm on BBC Radio 5 Live – the exact TX time is unconfirmed.
