Look North’s Jeff Brown made life member of National Union of Journalists

Former Look North anchor Jeff Brown, who stepped down from the flagship North East and Yorkshire news show after over two decades in March, has been made a life member of the National Union of Journalists.

The storied journalist and presenter said he was “honoured” by the decision.

Brown joined Look North, initially as a sports presenter in 2003. Prior to that he’d had six years at Tyne Tees. Brown grew up in Sunderland and got his first job as a freelancer for the Sunderland Echo as a teenager. and has worked in the region for most of his career.

Outside of journalism, he wrote Cornered, about former Sunderland defender, David Corner, which hit the stage in 2020 and was also adapted into audio format.

Brown said on departing Look North that he has several other projects in the pipeline “with the BBC and others.”

In case you were wondering if that means Brown no longer has to pay his NUJ subs, apparently not, though he does get half-price subs until he retires, which Brown added is “some way off.”
