King Charles has recorded a special message for Emmerdale as the Yorkshire soap prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
It was broadcast last night at the National Television Awards where Emmerdale picked up 2 awards for Best Serial Drama and Best Serial Drama Performance (Matt Charnock).
Recorded before his accession to the Throne, King Charles III congratulated the team on their 50 years, as well as their work around sustainability both on and off screen.
He joked that he was “so old” that he could remember it being called Emmerdale Farm and added that it was an “amazing British export” which had kept true to its origins by “depicting what life is really like for those who work the land and protect our precious countryside.
“It also stresses brilliantly something that concerns me greatly: the long-term sustainability of the way we produce our food.”
NTA’s Executive Producer, Kim Turberville, said:

Fifty years of iconic television out of the North is a huge achievement and rightly deserves to be celebrated in the best way possible.
