New BBC doc How to Win The Ashes promises to unearth stories from one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries, with stars of the game including Lancashire bowler Jimmy Anderson and Durham’s Ben Stokes among those spilling the beans on their quest for the famous urn.

The show promises in-depth interviews with cricketers including Stokes, Anderson, former England captain Andrew Strauss, fast bowler Simon Jones and Australian legends Glen McGrath and Adam Gilchrist, who will help peel back the layers of the 2005 series as England ended nearly 20 years of Ashes hurt by defeating an Australian team blessed with greats.

The doc relives the on-field heroics which captured a nation’s imagination, and also lifts the lid on the behind-the-scenes turmoil, revealing a darker side to the pursuit of success.

On the eve of an Ashes series on English soil, this documentary provides the perfect prelude for what promises to be a spectacular sporting contest.

The documentary is available on BBC iPlayer today (Wednesday June 7), and will also air on BBC 2 at 7pm on Thursday, June 15.

The 2023 Ashes kicks off on Friday June 16 at Edgbaston and lasts until July 31, with daily highlights on BBC 2 at 7pm and live daily coverage on Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Main Event.
