Lancashire AI campus gets £40million

multiversity

Blackpool’s Multiversity campus is to receive £40m as part of the government’s £2.1bn Levelling Up Fund.

The project, led by Blackpool Council and Wyre Council will promote skills across automation and artificial intelligence.

The carbon-neutral campus in the town centre will allow Blackpool and The Fylde College to replace its ageing out-of-town centre facilities.

“We are delighted by today’s Levelling Up announcement that includes Multiversity, Blackpool. Multiversity will further enhance Higher Education opportunities for our communities across the Fylde whilst contributing to the regeneration of the town centre,” said Bev Robinson CBE, OBE, Principal and Chief Executive, Blackpool and the Fylde College.

“Both businesses and residents will benefit from Multiversity; delivering a highly skilled workforce that supports local and regional businesses to flourish and residents to gain rich career opportunities. This investment demonstrates the power of collaboration with our valued partner, Blackpool Council. Multiversity is great news for Blackpool.”

In total 100 projects were awarded a share of the funding, with others in the North of England including £50m for the Eden Project North in Morecambe; and £20m for the regeneration of Gateshead Quays and the Sage.
