Michelle Keegan is to take the lead in a new five-part series of Our Girl for BBC One.
The former Coronation Street star, who also appeared in an episode of Ordinary Lies earlier this year, play Corporal Georgie Lane as the drama goes on African mission to Kenya.
Our Girl was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, and Polly Hill, controller of BBC Drama Commissioning. It’s written by Tony Grounds and made by BBC Drama Production.
Keegan said: “I’ve watched Our Girl and I’m a massive fan of the series so I can’t wait to be a part of it. It’s going to be a big but exciting challenge for me so I can’t wait to get started!”
The new commission follows a successful first series last year – starring Eastenders actress Lacey Turner – as well as 2013’s single drama, which drew a consolidated audience of 6.3 million.
Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, said: “With thanks to Lacey for a fabulous first series, we are delighted to welcome Michelle Keegan who will lead the cast in the return of BBC One’s hit drama Our Girl, which will take viewers on an African mission in contemporary Kenya.”
