Bury-based sports leisurewear giant JD Sports has blocked non-executive director Kath Smith from joining online fashion group Boohoo in the same role.
The Manchester fashion retailer had announced on April 22nd that Smith had been appointed to its board with effect from May 1st.
Group chief executive Mahmud Kamani had said: “Her commercial insight will be a great asset to the board and the business as it continues to develop and grow. We are looking forward to working with her.”
However, JD Sports has now withdrawn its consent for the appointment and Boohoo has said it will ”seek a suitable replacement as soon as possible”.
In a stock exchange announcement today, Boohoo said it was “disappointed to report that JD Sports Fashion PLC has withdrawn its consent for Kath Smith to join the Boohoo board, as previously announced”.
The reason for JD Sports’ decision is not currently known.
