James Nesbitt leads trio of new cast members for Quay Street’s next Netflix Harlan Coben adaptation Missing You

James Nesbitt (Stay Close, Bloodlands), Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Bulletproof) and Matt Jay-Willis (Wolves of War, Love is Blind) have joined the cast of Quay Street Productions’ latest Harlan Coben adaptation for Netflix, Missing You.

Missing You will be the 9th on-screen adaptation from bestselling author Harlan Coben through his on-going creative partnership with Netflix. Coben continues his work with local screenwriters from around the world to bring his novels to life on screen, so far across four languages.

Missing You follows 2024’s hugely successful Quay Street limited thriller series Fool Me Once, also a Coben adaptation, which starred Michelle Keegan, Adeel Akhtar, Joanna Lumley and Richard Armitage. That showis currently at number 6 of Netflix’s chart of its Top 10 most popular English-language shows of all time, with 94m views since launch in January.

The latest cast members will be teaming up with previously announced stars including Rosalind Eleazar, Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, Ashley Walters, Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, Samantha Spiro, Lisa Faulkner and Mary Malone.

The story follows Detective Kat Donovan (Eleazar), whose fiancé Josh – the love of her life – disappeared without trace 11 years ago. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world explodes all over again. Josh’s reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.

Like Fool Me Once, Quay Street will relocate the story from the US to the UK. Filming has now started around Manchester and the North West of England.

Lead writer Victoria Asare-Archer said: “Kat Donovan was a thrill to write – she’s such a brilliantly messy, complicated woman. I’m really excited that we have a hugely talented ensemble cast on board – it’s a dream! I can’t wait to see them dive into Harlan’s world.”

Executive producers for Quay Street Productions, founder Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee, added: “’We’re delighted to have Victoria Asare-Archer adapting Harlan’s brilliant book for Netflix. Missing You is a thrilling ride with a huge heart and we have a wonderful cast to bring it to life.”

Quay Street Productions was founded by multi-award-winner Shindler in 2021, to make contemporary, provocative, entertaining, and engaging drama for U.K. and global audiences.

The production company builds on Shindler’s reputation to deliver compelling drama, with her previous credits including It’s A Sin, Stay Close, Ridley Road, Finding Alice, The Stranger, Happy Valley and Queer As Folk.

Based in Manchester, Quay Street puts the writers and talent at the centre of the production process. Welcoming voices from all different backgrounds, Quay Street promotes a diversity of storytelling, working with new and established writers. Russell T Davies drama Nolly for Quay Street Productions, starring Helena Bonham Carter as soap opera legend Noele “Nolly” Gordon, and Significant Other starring Katherine Parkinson and Youssef Kerkour, launched on ITVX and ITV in 2023. Feature-length drama, Men Up starring Iwan Rheon aired on BBC One over Christmas 2023 and more recently After the Flood, written by Mick Ford and starring Sophie Rundle launched on ITV1 and ITVX in January 2024.

Quay Street’s last Harlan Coben adaptation for Netflix, Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan and Joanna Lumley, premiered globally on 1st January 2024, amassing 61M views globally in its first two weeks.
