“I’ve got a text!” – the Liverpool digital firm behind Love Island tech

A company founded in a Birkenhead bedroom has been working on the tech behind some of ITV’s biggest shows.

Monterosa, which is now based at Mann Island in Liverpool city centre created the interactive technology, app and brand shop for Love Island.

It’s also behind the phone interaction between contestants which led to the ubiquitous “I’ve got a text!” quotes.

The Bafta-winning firm says the app has been downloaded 3.5m times; and since it introduced an online store, more than 300k personalised water bottles have been sold.

“It’s satisfying to know that tech companies can thrive in Liverpool. We really believe that the people in this city have what it takes to break new ground in the world of tech, and the Love Island success has proved that already,” explained CEO, Tom McDonnell.

“The inspiration behind Monterosa was the computer games industry in the city during the ‘90s, so to set up back in Liverpool with a permanent engineering hub in Mann Island has been fantastic. We’re fully backing the northern office and are looking to hire even more people from the area as there is no shortage of ambitious and hungry tech talent, ready to help keep us and Liverpool itself as a leader in innovation.”

Monterosa also works on Britain’s Got Talent, the X Factor and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
