ITV Tyne Tees and Inspector George Gently among RTS North East winners

ITV Tyne Tees enjoyed a double success at the Royal Television Society North East and the Border awards.

It won best news programme for its Tour de France special last summer, while Pam Royle, who has been the face of ITV Tyne Tees for more than 30 years, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Over 400 attended the ceremony at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead on Saturday night, which was presented by BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern.

Martin Shaw picked up the best drama award for locally-shot Inspector George Gently, now on its eighth series, while Michael Pentney of Gateshead-based TV, film and video production Fantom Line claimed the award for best editing.

BBC North East graphic designer Tony Bannister was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
