ITV Studios is continuing its training courses for multi-camera drama directors, in association with Directors UK.

The latest intensive training event took place on Coronation Street, with new drama directors being introduced to the principles of shooting multi-camera, before being given the opportunity to direct some complex multi-camera training scenes in a fully crewed studio with a professional cast.

Following the 6 day course, 3 applicants have been selected to go forward for further training on the show. This will include directing scenes for transmission on the soap.

The successful trio are Chantelle Kayll, Emma Lindley and Alex Browning.

“The multi-camera workshop surpassed my expectations. Neil Alderton and Alan Grint’s training and encouragement in particular made it one of the best TV experiences I’ve had so far,” said Browning.

ITV plans to run another course later in the year with the Emmerdale team in Leeds.

“Emmerdale and Coronation Street are at the heart of British cultural life.  Not only do they entertain a mass audience on a nightly basis, they continue to employ, train and nurture a huge population of programme making talent,” said John Whiston, ITV’s Managing Director of Continuing Drama.

“Our ability to run unique courses such as this across both our ‘soaps’ enables us to extend the search to find a diverse range of talent, the people who will eventually take our programmes – and the industry – into the next era.”
