ITV has confirmed that the new series of I’m a Celebrity will be filmed at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales.

The show has had to relocate from its usual home in Australia, due to Covid-19.

It means that Ant and Dec will now crown a King, or a Queen of the Castle.

Gwrych Castle is set in 250 acres of grounds, overlooking the Irish Sea and was used as the location for the 1996 film, Prince Valiant, starring Joanna Lumley and Edward Fox.

“I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2020 series,” said Dr Mark Baker of the Gwyrch Castle Preservation Trust.

“Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed 19th county house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales. I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support Gwrych Castle and its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost.”

Richard Cowles, Director of Entertainment at ITV Studios added:

“… We are all really excited about a UK version of I’m A Celebrity.  While it will certainly be different producing the show from the UK, the same tone and feel will remain.

“Our celebrities will probably have to swap shorts for thermals but they can still look forward to a basic diet of rice and beans and plenty of thrills and surprises along the way”.
