Splitpixel, the Huddersfield digital agency, has launched a new online ordering platform to support those businesses struggling during the coronavirus lockdown.
The platform, TheLocal.Delivery, gives SMEs an easy way to handle online orders for delivery and takeout, as well as taking payments online. It was the brainchild of Splitpixel’s Creative Director, Rob Marshall.
The lockdown due to COVID-19 has left many bars, cafes and restaurants with limited options – eliminating footfall completely. Many have had to quickly move towards delivery or takeaway options to ensure cashflow at this difficult time.
Splitpixel’s solution involves free hosting during lockdown, and costs a one-off fee for the businesses signing up. Invoices are being held back until businesses are comfortable fulfilling them.
Some clients already using the platform since its recent launch include Arcade Coffee & Food and Asparagus Green Catering, with businesses from outside the region signing up too, including Battersea’s Feast & Social.
Rob Evans, Content Manager at Splitpixel and running the project, said: “We noticed so many of our favourite cafes and restaurants scrambling to take orders on Facebook and over the phone. It sounded like a nightmare.
“That’s why we built this platform – businesses will still need to sort out the delivery logistics themselves, but they get one convenient place to manage orders, with payments taken through PayPal.
“We’re a small business too, with work of our own on hold during the lockdown – we can’t imagine what it’s been like for those working in hospitality. In all honesty, we just hope this helps.”
