HOME runs Mike Leigh retrospective

Mike Leigh is to attend a special screening of the new 4K remaster of his film, Naked, at HOME Manchester.

It’s part of the BFI’s UK-wide celebration of the Salford-born filmmaker.

At HOME, a season of his films will be shown between 7th and 30th November,.

Focusing on his early productions, HOME will show the breadth of his work, from his first feature, Bleak Moments, to Meantime and High Hopes. There will also be a screening of his BBC Play for Today, Nuts in May, as well as Grown Ups, Hard Labour and Kiss of Death.

A seven-time Oscar nominee, winner of five BAFTAs, and nominated for another ten BAFTA awards, he is also the only British director to have won the main prize at both Cannes (for Secrets & Lies, 1996) and Venice (for Vera Drake, 2004).

Leigh will attend the Q&A on 12th November on the nationwide re-release of Naked, which won Best Director at Cannes as well as Best Actor (David Thewlis).

The HOME season has been programmed by Andy Willis, HOME’s Senior Visiting Curator: Film and Professor of Film Studies at the University of Salford.
