Newsquest’s network of websites, which includes a host of regional papers across the North of England and beyond, was inaccessible this morning due to issues reportedly caused by the UK heatwave.
Readers are currently unable to access the publisher’s portfolio of titles online after high temperatures hit a data centre housing computer systems used by the group.
Newsquest Cheshire and Merseyside group editor Hayley Smith Tweeted from her personal account: “Apologies to those who have been trying to access our websites this morning – our central NQ team are working on it and hope to have us back online shortly.”
The Northern Echo also posted from its official account: “We’re having some issues with our IT systems this morning which are affecting all our Newsquest sites. We’ll be back up and running as soon as we can.”
Hereford Times editor John Wilson directly attributed the problem to the current heatwave. He posted: “The Hereford Times website is currently down owing to a problem caused by yesterday’s high temperatures at a data centre we use in the south of England.”
Newsquest’s sites were still down at the time of writing.
