Hatch steps into PR role for heritage footwear brand

Hatch has won the PR contract for British heritage footwear brand POD.

Hatch, which specialises in both traditional and digital PR, social media, activation, and has a full in-agency content production studio, will lead on POD’s consumer and trade PR activity, as the brand looks to reclaim its place as a market leader.

POD was founded in 1976, out of rejection to the chunky platform trend of the 1970s. POD emerged as a pioneer of casual shoes, ahead of the sneaker culture wave. The icons from ’76 have stood the test of time and the collection today is a mix of heritage designs and fresh takes on classic styles.

POD is owned by the William Lamb Group, a footwear, and accessories supplier with over 130 years of shoe making expertise. The family-led business acquired the brand in 2020, representing a significant step change for the heritage brand. The William Lamb Group plans to invest in new product innovations and provide expertise in product development.

Victoria Tidmarsh, operations director at Hatch said: “We’re proud to be working alongside the wonderful team at POD. Not only is there a rich brand history, but the products themselves allow us to be creative in engaging with our target audiences. We’re really looking forward to putting our plans into action throughout the year.”

Jane Wilson, CEO of William Lamb Group added: “Over the last three years, POD has built a strong business, through sharpening the brand, product curation and improving the day-to-day operations of the business. As a result, we have seen a resilient trading performance despite the challenging economic backdrop. Heading into 2024, we see an opportunity to tap into a new audience and uphold the brand’s strong DNA and heritage and we are excited to have Hatch on the journey with us.

“We needed a partner who understands our brand and where we are on our journey, speaks our language with a relevant tone of voice, to appeal to new consumers as well as existing ones, and Hatch offers exactly that.”
