Happy Radio appoints former Bauer Media sales manager as director

Independent Manchester-based Radio Station Happy Radio has appointed former Bauer Media and Manchester City and United staffer Siobhan Johnston as its new sales director.

Johnston brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked at Bauer Media as account manager for Hits Radio & Greatest Hits Radio, as well as serving in business development roles at both Manchester Premier League clubs.

Darren Proctor and Max Eden, co-owners of Happy Radio, said in a statement: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Siobhan to the Happy Radio family. Her passion, knowledge, and industry experience makes her an incredible fit for Happy Radio as we continue to grow and connect with even more businesses across the North West.”

Johnston added: “I’m absolutely delighted to be starting my new role as sales director at Happy Radio! It’s an incredible opportunity to work with a fantastic team, iconic presenters, and amazing businesses—all while helping to bring even more joy to our listeners.

“Radio is such a powerful medium, and I can’t wait to collaborate with brands and partners to create exciting opportunities that truly make an impact. Here’s to new beginnings, big ideas, and spreading positivity – tune in and give it a listen, I promise it’ll make you smile!”

Happy Radio continues to grow its audience and influence across the North West partnering with a number of high profile key businesses across the area, including recently becoming the official radio partner for AO Arena as the venue celebrated its 30th birthday, announced earlier this year.

Happy Radio features a presenter line up which includes the likes of Steve Penk, Darren Proctor, Chelsea Norris and many more familiar names from across the North West and has made a name for itself by serving as a champion for local radio in the region, even as major radio players such as the BBC and Global increasingly give local radio broadcasting a back seat. When the channel launched in 2022, founder Procter said: “Looking back over the last 25 years of my career, some of the most fun and rewarding times were when the radio stations focussed on being hyper local, connecting with our audience to not only make the listener feel that they were part of the radio family but also creating huge interest from local businesses wanting to be part of it.”
