Channel 4 secured its biggest audience for the Grand National in what was its last running of the event before ITV takes over next year.
The Aintree event, won by 33-1 outsider Rule the World, was watched by a peak audience of 10 million, up 1.1m on last year.
The figures seem to justify the broadcaster’s decision to put the race back an hour until 5.15pm.
It’s the race’s biggest audience since the BBC last aired it in 2012, and Channel 4’s third biggest audience ever after an episode of Big Brother and the opening ceremony for the London Paralympics.
