Geordie Hospital producer heads to Wales

Geordie Hospital series producer Gavin Henderson has joined Welsh indie Hello Deer Studios as director of unscripted.

Henderson will join creative director Jasper Warry and commercial director Joel Atley at the Welsh production house behind Richard Parks: Can I Be Welsh and Black? (ITV Wales), to grow the slate of global formats out of Wales.

Beyond his work on Geordie Hospital for Curve Media, working on Channel 4’s Geordie Hospital, Henderson has served as creative director of Plimsoll Productions, where he created Life At The Extreme with Davina McCall (ITV) and as creative director of Big Brother for a year when it ran on Channel 5 following a stint as head of programmes at Endemol West.

Henderson has also exec produced wildlife formats including Supergiant Animals, Ultimate Swarms, and Great Bear Steakout for BBC1, spent four years at the BBC’s Natural History Unit and has produced entertainment and reality formats for Planet 24, Ginger, RDF and his own indie Highwire Productions, which is behind BBC3’s Undercover Tourist.

Atley said: “With Gavin we aim to develop and deliver new, exciting, commercially successful and audacious global formats out of Wales, that travel the world.”

Henderson added: “I’ve worked with Jasper for many years now to create distinctive, entertaining and thought-provoking format ideas. We’re excited to offer a raft of fresh and innovative reality and entertainment formats from Wales.”
