Leading national LBBTQ+ broadcaster Gaydio launches across seven new cities in the UK from today, Monday December 9.
Listeners in Leeds and Sheffield will be among those who can now tune into Gaydio’s content on DAB+ digital radio, while the broadcaster will also be extending its reach in Scotland, Wales and the South with new operations in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Birmingham and Bristol.
Gaydio first aired in Manchester in 2006, where it currently broadcasts on 88.4FM as well as on DAB. It evolved into national brand with the acquisition of London-focussed GaydarRadio in January 2013. In 2018 it launched a second dual FM/DAB service on 97.8FM in Brighton.
The station is home to shows including the flagship Gaydio Breakfast with Paris and Dave, and also plays hosts to globally renowned DJs such as Tiesto and Purple Disco Machine.
Listeners can expect the best in upbeat dance and pop, and chat from an LGBTQ+ persective. The channel also actively champions LGBTQ+ causes and communities, and in February will launch its debut Gaydio Pride Awards in association with Hilton, at Manchester’s Hilton Deansgate Hotel.
Kriss Herbert, network content manager and mid-morning presenter said: “It’s great that Gaydio is going to be bigger than ever before, broadcasting across seven new cities for the first time, meaning that more queer people across the UK can now tune in for the best in LGBTQ+ entertainment, news and of course music. We look forward to doing even more with the LGBTQ+ community across the UK going forward!”
