Jeremy Wright has been named as the fourth culture secretary in two years.
He replaces Matt Hancock, who has moved to take on Jeremy Hunt’s health brief after just six months in the post.
It follows yesterday upheaval in the Cabinet following the resignations of David Davis and Boris Johnson over unhappiness with Theresa May’s Chequers Brexit deal.
Wright moves to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport from his position as Attorney General, chief legal adviser to the Crown, a role he held for four years.
A former criminal barrister hailing from Somerset, Wright was first elected as an MP in 2005 and currently represents the constituency of Kenilworth and Southam in Warwickshire.
On his agenda is likely to be the new National HQ and Creative Hubs for Channel 4.
The state-owned broadcaster is currently deciding between a shortlist of cities before announcing its final decision in October.
