The former crime correspondent at the Yorkshire Post is heading up a new investigations team working across the i paper and JPI Media’s regional titles across the UK.
Claire Wilde has taken up the role of news editor for data and investigations at the publisher, leading a team of 10.
Others in the team include Yorkshire Post reporter John Blow, Blackpool Gazette and Lancashire Post reporter Michael Holmes and Gavin Ledwith of the Sunderland Echo, Hartlepool Mail and Shields Gazette.
Johnston Press, which was bought out of administration by JPI Media last year, launched an investigations team in 2016 headed up by Aasma Day, who left the Lancashire Evening Post to join Huffpost UK last year.
Wilde, who has previously been City Hall reporter at the Bradford Telegraph & Argus and also spent three months on secondment with the BBC’s shared data unit in Birmingham, said: ““I am hugely excited to be working with such a talented and dedicated team of reporters. Some of them were instrumental in the investigations team’s past projects, while others, like me, are joining for the first time.
“This team has already proven that when journalists from different titles collaborate, they can produce investigations of huge public interest which can bring about genuine change for the communities they serve.
“We’ve already started on our first investigation and look forward to seeing where it takes us.”
She is still operating from the Yorkshire Post building in Leeds.
Previous investigations by the Johnston Press team included Veterans in Crisis, an in-depth focus on the number of military veterans taking their own lives.
