Her most recent role had been at Cirrus, where she had led the February 2013 merger with The Raft – where she had been managing director. She left the Cheshire consultancy at Christmas once the merger process was complete.

She told Prolific North that her role at WRG would be focused on how it could accelerate its growth and expand its global operations.

She said: “It’s a great opportunity for me, and it’s fantastic to be part of something that is growing globally while having its headquarters in Manchester.

“The live communications sector is really dynamic, exciting and very fast-moving, and WRG has proven very successful and has grown quickly.”

WRG currently has 100 staff based in Manchester and was recently appointed to deliver Le Grand Depart in Yorkshire by the Tour de France.

It opened a specialist healthcare office in Philadephia last year and Smith said that another office opening was being planned, possibly in Basel.
