Robbie MacDonald, the former business editor of the Oldham Evening Chronicle has joined Cornerstone.

MacDonald was one of the 49 staff made redundant when the paper’s publishers went into administration earlier this month.

He has been recruited by the Oldham-based advertising and digital agency in the newly created role of PR manager.

“We are moving towards the agency’s tenth anniversary and the business has grown significantly over the years. I’m confident that Robbie’s skills, services, experience and contacts will help Cornerstone to broaden our services to existing clients and win new business,” said David Wadsworth, Cornerstone managing director.

MacDonald edited and launched Oldham Business Edge magazine in 2015 and hosts the Professional Oldham networking group, which he set up last year.

“Oldham is undergoing important changes and the area’s PR, design and digital businesses have important roles to play in this. The future profile and development of towns such as Oldham is a key interest of mine. So I am delighted to be joining Cornerstone and remaining active here,” he said.

His previous PR experience includes time as account manager at Polaris Media.
