Former Manchester United and England goalkeeper Ben Foster could be in line for a role in the next Deadpool movie after coming out of retirement to sign for Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC.
According to Twitter, the 39-year-old keeper marked the start of his new Wrexham career, on a short-term contract due to regular keeper Rob Lainton’s injury, with a meeting with chairman Reynolds at which the Marvel star offered him a part in the next Deadpool movie: “Just been in for a chat with the chairman, the one and only Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds…He’s even said that he’ll put me in the new one with him and Big Hugh Jacko, friggin’ Wolverine,” Foster is quoted as saying.
“Just been in for a chat with the chairman, the one and only Deadpool himself, Marvel ledge Ryan Reynolds, The Rezzla, Big Ry, and honestly lads I am buzzin’. He’s even said, yeah, that he’ll put me in the new one with him and Big Hugh Jacko, friggin’ Wolverine COME ON YOU REDS” https://t.co/AF6zew5TSX pic.twitter.com/VlR4Dj84r4

It’s not entirely clear where the quote has come from, though the club’s official site carries the more restrained: “I’m over the moon. I’ve been at the club an hour this morning and it seems a really nice place. Everyone is down to earth and the manager’s top class. It’s changed a lot since I was last here, but it’s nice to be back and it’s nice to be back as a player too. It will be interesting to see how my body feels after training today! I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Foster previously played for Wrexham during a loan stint in 2005.
We’ll be watching Foster’s own feed for official confirmation of his forthcoming career as a superhero, perhaps alongside David James, Joe Hart and David Seaman as an X-Men-style team of good-deed-performing former England keepers with a Manchester link.
In the meantime Wrexham AFC, jointly owned by Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, are three points clear of Notts County with a game in hand at the top of the National League and looking a good bet for promotion to the Football League – the first stage in the Hollywood pair’s stated aim of taking Wrexham to the Premier League.
