Former Clear Marketing MD returns with new agency Mutiny

Gemma Stirling, former managing director of Clear Marketing, which closed its doors in December after losing its biggest client, has unveiled a new venture aimed at elevating small businesses by helping them access invaluable big agency marketing know-how.

By leveraging Stirling’s extensive senior level sector experience, Mutiny aims to level the playing field for ambitious small firms. It bridges the gulf between big-brand expertise and the agility and hands-on approach required by emerging businesses.

“Smaller set-ups can miss out on invaluable experience, and I don’t think that’s fair,” said Stirling. “When you’re a small business, you don’t want to pay big agency bills or be tied to a contract that lasts until the end of time. But you’re as passionate about great work as anyone else. You shouldn’t have to settle for second-tier marketing support.”

Mutiny caters to the unique requirements and budgets of small businesses through a flexible model. The new consultancy offers retained services as well as project-based collaborations: “I understand the barriers that smaller businesses face,” Stirling said. “And I’m determined to deliver high-impact results without the hefty agency fees.”

At Mutiny’s core lies a comprehensive approach to brand transformation. From strategic planning and positioning to branding, communications, and multi-channel delivery, Stirling’s broad experience means Mutiny can confidently guide its clients through any part of their marketing journey.

Stirling said Mutiny’s arrival is especially well-timed, given the shifting landscape of agency-client dynamics: “Brands are reassessing their relationships with traditional agencies, opting to choose more flexible partnerships,’ she explained. “The continued rise of the freelance market offers the opportunity to access expert guidance on-demand, without the constraints of a traditional agency model.”

With over two decades of expertise in crafting successful marketing strategies for brands like Thomas Cook, Pets at Home, Millie’s Cookies and Smooth Radio, Stirling is committed to empowering smaller businesses with the strategic direction and tactical support they need to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.
