Peter Salmon, the former BBC North head who oversaw the corporation’s set-up of its Northern base in Salford, has revealed his return as as an advisor to help MediaCity become an “even bigger success”.
He revealed the news in a new ‘This is MediaCity‘ podcast, which launches today and delves behind the scenes at Salford’s MediaCity featuring its talent, creatives and innovators.
The first episode ‘Time to shout now’ features Peter Salmon who reflects on the seismic shift of 3,000 BBC employees from London to Salford over a decade ago, and how he’s back to help shape the next ‘exciting phase’ of MediaCity.
“Peel brought this incredible initial energy and pride to it [MediaCity], and then at some point like all good sports events, the baton gets passed to another party in the same way people took over from me at the BBC,” he tells Stephen Chapman, host of the podcast who is also journalist, producer and founder of 39 Pictures. He goes on to explain how new owners Landsec have brought renewed energy and investment to MediaCity.
“It’s both familiar to me but strangely different,” he says about his return. “I’m excited by it, I feel like I’m renewing my vows to make sure this place [MediaCity] goes on to be an even bigger success.”
