Former BBC Breakfast and One Show host joins Arla Great North Swimmers

Former BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin will be joining this year’s Arla Great North Swim.

Minchin spent 20 years at the BBC’s flagship morning show, around a decade as a regular anchor, and has also hosted The One Show and Real Rescues (alongside Nick Knowles and Chris Hollins) and guested on shows including Celebrity Masterchef and I’m a Celebrity…

She is the author of two books and a passionate triathlete and swimmer who qualified as a member of the 2015 Great Britain Age-Group Triathlon Team (45–49 age group).

Minchin will be taking part in the two-mile swim on Friday, 7 June, and the middle distance SwimRun on Saturday, 8 June.

Minchin will be appearing on the SwimFest stage on the Saturday afternoon to talk about her book ‘Fearless’, celebrating 17 stories of trailblazing women who are breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes through their strength, power, and determination.

Minchin, who lives in Cheshire and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Chester, said: “I’m so excited to come to the Lake District and be part of the Arla Great North Swim weekend. This event is something I’ve been wanting to do for ages and I can’t wait to join all the swimmers.”

The Arla Great North Swim, the UK’s most popular and biggest open water swimming event will be held on June 7-9 2024. Staged at Brockhole on Windermere, in the stunning surroundings of the Lake District National Park, the event welcomes 7-8,000 swimmers and 20,000 supporters across three days in June every year.
