Fettle Animation will be heading to New York next week, for a screening of its acclaimed animation, Children of the Holocaust.

It will be shown at the United Nations headquarters, with producer Kath Shackleton and director Zane Whittingham taking part in a live Q&A.

It is one of 19 global screenings as part of a partnership with the United Nations for its Holocaust Remembrance Outreach Programme. Others include Baku, Bogota, Dar es Salaam, Kathmandu, Lagos, Nigeria, Moscow and Vienna.

“We are honoured that our animation is continuing to help Holocaust Survivors to tell their important stories.  Animation is a gentle way to retell these, with warmth and sensitivity to help young audiences to understand what happened and why it is important to remember the Holocaust today,” said Shackleton.

The film, which has won multiple awards will also be the subject of a new BBC Four programme, highlighting its ongoing success in telling the stories of Holocaust survivors.

“This highlights the universal dimension of the Holocaust and encourages education on this tragedy so that future generations will firmly reject all forms of racism, violence and anti-Semitism. The Holocaust was a defining point in history and its lessons have much to teach about the danger of extremism and the prevention of genocide today,” added a UN spokesperson.

Huddersfield-based Fettle has also adapted the animation into a graphic novel.
