With the other three zones at Digital City Expo focusing on Marketing, Tech and Media, the eCommerce Zone will bring together leaders and specialists from online retail companies to share knowledge on the latest developments in the sector.
Many of the companies of the speakers below are also exhibiting in the eCommerce Zone, and are joined by the likes of LiveArea, Dept, Boohoo, N Brown Group and many more. A full list of exhibitors for the expo will be published later this week.
Day One
Liam Patterson, CEO of Bidnamic will be discussing the first topic of the day (10.30am) at the eCommerce Masterclass Theatre – why Google Shopping doesn’t work for many retailers. PPC expert Matthew Soakell from Mabo will take the stage after him (11.10am) to take a closer look at automation through a Paid Search perspective, before dynamic duo Dave Ferguson and Sean Connell from Verse (11.50am) speak more about why Customer Experience (CX) is your product.
The afternoon’s speaker sessions at the eCommerce Masterclass Theatre kick off with dotdigital’s Gavin Laugenie sharing the findings of the company’s annual report along with some digital marketing recommendations (1.40pm). Georgia Barry from Vaimo is looking at Customer Experience in 2020 (2.20pm) and advising how to start planning for 2025, before LiveArea’s Benoit Soucaret’s talk ‘Design for Trust’ explores how user design principles can help build trust with customers (3pm).
On the other stage in the eCommerce Zone, the eCommerce Experts Theatre, Sarah Willcocks, Screen Pages Ltd, will explain how Progressive Web Apps can allow merchants to address increasing demands (10.30am) before PureClarity’s Andre de Gaye (11.10am) speaks on how AI and Big Data are transforming the way we shop online. Just before midday, Digital Media Team’s Ben Young will share advice to help you get the most out of PPC and Paid Social (11.50am).
The afternoon’s talks at the eCommerce Experts Theatre begin with GC Business Growth Hub’s Richard Jeffery highlighting the fantastic opportunities available for SMEs in Greater Manchester (1.20pm). Growth Hub colleague Sarah Novotny will then run a joint session with Simon Weeks from Maginus (1.40pm), where they’ll discuss his experiences of his company getting acquired from overseas.
Later on, twentysix’s Rich Jones and Chris Purcell from Episerver (2.20pm) will talk about ‘surviving personalisation’, before Jiao Li from Crayfish.io shares some valuable insight on how best to navigate China’s unique digital landscape.

Day Two
On the eCommerce Masterclass Theatre, Day Two will begin with Mapp Digital’s Ricardas Montvila (10.30am) sharing how customer insights can improve marketing results, before Bidnamic’s Liam Patterson does a joint session with Max Wright from Medisave (11.10am) sharing how to stay competitive in a crowded online market. Just before midday, parcelLab’s Sherine El-Tarahony (11.50am) discusses why retailers need to stop ignoring customers post-checkout.
Later on in the day, the eCommerce Masterclass Theatre will host a Q&A session with Katy Gaunt from Twinkl (1.40pm) before Graham Broughton from Storesome (3pm) covers how marketplaces and platform technologies are changing how we shop and how global businesses are enabling and embracing this change.
Day Two at the eCommerce Experts Theatre begins with zenloop’s Craig Griffiths talking about retention success factors and sharing his best eCommerce practices (10.30am). Jon Brooks from itelligence CX will be talking about how his company improved the online shopping experience for Smyths Toys (11.10am).
Paul Casey from Seventy7 (11.50am) will introduce the power of Social Media advertising through Facebook and Instagram. Emma Roberts, part of the Digital Culture Network, Arts Council England, will explain how one specific customer value journey framework will instantly improve sales, clicks and customer engagement (2.20pm).
