England v Slovakia drama bags biggest TV audience in 18 months

ITV landed the biggest television audience on any UK channel for 18 months with a peak of 18.4 million watching England’s dramatic extra-time victory against Slovakia across ITV1 and ITVX on all devices.

From kick-off to final whistle the match was watched by 15.6m, with 66% of the available TV audience tuning into the coverage, including a massive 89% share for 16-34s . The total audience was TV’s biggest since the 2022 winter World Cup, and almost as many as the 18.8m who watched King Charles’ coronation, which was split between multiple channels.

With the England match followed directly by Spain v Georgia on ITV1 and ITVX, which peaked with 8.9m, ITV had its best Sunday for over a decade.

Last night’s audience followed the peak of 15.4m who watched ITV’s exclusive live coverage of England’s final group stage game against Slovenia last Tuesday.

Led by main presenter Mark Pougatch along with Laura Woods, ITV’s star-studded Euros squad offers a wealth of insight, expertise and opinion from a punditry line-up across the tournament of Ian Wright, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Karen Carney, Graeme Souness, Eni Aluko, Gael Clichy, Joleon Lescott, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou,  Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl and refereeing analyst Christina Unkel.

ITV’s Euro coverage continues today with exclusive, live coverage of the France v Belgium Round of 16 match from 3.45pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

All ITV games will be shown on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
